The Border Security Force (BSF) of the Government of India is a prestigious and a dignified profession and being qualified for it, is a big dream for most Indian candidates. Government of India commenced BSF on December 1, 1965 and so many citizens of India have obliged their life to it. It is a paramilitary force, performing duty at the Indian border.

Being ordinary citizens, we proudly claim that India is a peaceful nation and we are happily living our lives in our country. But, who makes it all possible is our BSF officers. This comes under the supervision of Ministry of Home Affairs and India holds the pride of being the world’s largest Border Security Force.

Eligibility criteria

The Border Security Force (BSF) has officers of different grades and each hierarchy has different eligibility criteria.

To become a constable in the BSF, the candidate must have completed 18 and not exceeded 23 years of age. The maximum age limit for OBC candidates are 26 years and for SC/ST candidates are 28 years. The candidate is expected to have a minimum qualification of 10th standard pass. He/she is expected to be in a height of 170cms and the weight should be corresponding to height. Either too lean or too hefty candidates will not be considered, with priority, in selection. Other physical eligibility for a BSF constable includes good eye vision, good colour sensibility, proper foot, strong knees and healthy vein. He/she is expected not to wear glasses or lenses. Another major eligibility concern is that the candidate should not be a physically challenged person, because physical power is very vital to be a BSF officer. More than educational qualifications, the mental and the physical power, height, weight and chest measurements will be given priority.

If the application is getting through the preliminary level of selection process, the candidate has to undergo three different levels of test, one is the physical standards test, second is the physical efficiency test and the third is the written test. These tests will be followed by a personal round and a medical round, which is the final. If you are found to be eligible in these entire criterions, you will definitely get the pride of serving our nation.

Payscales:

The pay scales vary from Rs.6000/- for constables to Rs.80000 for the Director General. Each rank has its own range of pay. For instance the pay band for a head constable is from Rs.5200 to Rs.20200 and for a Subedar Major it is from Rs.9300 to Rs.34800.
